Terms of Service
Hanahaki is a small garden kept by one person, as a hobby: a place to leave what you never said. By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not, please do not use it.
1. The keeper, and who may use it
Hanahaki is run by one individual (“the keeper”) as a non-commercial hobby project. You must be at least 16 years old. A visitor may read the garden and leave a text-only bloom without an account. A member (an account with a handle) can also add photographs and keep a garden.
2. Your account
Keep your password to yourself; what happens under your account is your responsibility. Tell us if you think someone else has got into it. We cannot yet reset passwords by email, so a lost password may mean a lost account.
3. What you plant
You keep ownership of what you write and upload. By posting it you give Hanahaki a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, display and distribute it on the site for as long as it is there, so that the garden can work. You promise that you have the right to post it.
Public blooms can be read by anyone, and may be found, indexed and cached by search engines and copied by others. We can remove a bloom from Hanahaki; we cannot make other websites forget it. A bloom marked anonymous hides your handle from visitors, but it is still tied to your account internally, and the keeper can see who planted it. Please do not plant anything you could not bear to be read.
4. Real people
You may name who a message was meant for, but it is optional, and it must not point at a real person. Do not include:
- full names, handles, workplaces, schools or photographs of others;
- addresses, phone numbers, emails or account details;
- private messages, or anything that exposes someone who has not shared it;
- anything meant to find, shame, threaten or harass a person.
If a bloom names or exposes you or someone else, report it. Reported content that identifies a real person without their agreement will be hidden or removed.
5. What is not welcome
- Anything that sexualises minors, or that is otherwise illegal where you or we are.
- Harassment, threats, hate, or targeting a person or group.
- Impersonating another person, or posting as one.
- Spam, advertising, scams, or malware.
- Trying to break, overload or scrape the service, or to get around its limits or security.
6. If you are struggling
Hanahaki is a place to set words down. It is not a crisis service, and nobody reads blooms as they arrive, so no one will come if you write that you are in danger. If you may harm yourself, please reach a real person: you can find a helpline for your country at findahelpline.com, or contact local emergency services.
7. Fading, deleting, and what is kept
Blooms wilt unless they are tended. A bloom that fades is not deleted: it leaves the public garden, and, if you were signed in when you planted it, it stays in your own garden in a separate section for faded blooms, visible only to you. Blooms planted while signed out have no owner, so nobody can find them again once they fade.
You can delete your own bloom at any time. It disappears at once, and is permanently erased within 30 days (we keep it that long so that reports can still be looked into). Closing your account erases your blooms and profile immediately, except where we must keep something to prevent abuse or meet a legal duty.
8. Moderation
Blooms and whispers can be reported. The keeper may hide or remove content, and suspend or close accounts, if these terms are broken or the garden is at risk, with or without notice. This is one person working in spare time, so reports may take a while.
9. Support and donations
Donations are optional gifts in cryptocurrency, sent to the addresses on the support page. They pay only for running the garden: hosting, the database, image storage, the domain, and moving to higher service tiers as it grows. Hanahaki is not a charity, so gifts are not tax-deductible. They give you no extra rights, and blockchain transfers cannot be reversed, so they are not refundable. Check the address and network before sending.
The keeper will never ask for your wallet address, seed phrase, recovery words or private keys, by message, email or anywhere else. Anyone who does is not us.
10. No warranty
The service is provided as it is, without promises that it will be available, error-free or permanent. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the garden, including lost content. Nothing here limits any right you have by law that cannot be limited.
11. Changes and ending
You may stop at any time and ask us to close your account. We may change these terms, or the service, and will update the date above. Continuing to use Hanahaki afterwards means you accept the change. How we handle your data is described in the Privacy Policy.
